PADI Divemaster
Prerequisites: Advanced Open Water Diver Certification, Rescue Diver Certification, Current Emergency First Response Primary & Secondary Care, 40 Logged Dives

The Divemaster Course consists of 3 broad areas of learning. First there are the dive theory exams - twelve exams that test your knowledge of the following categories: physics, physiology, equipment, skills & environment, decompression theory & the RDP, Divemaster conducted programs, supervising certified divers, and assisting with student divers in training.

Second is the water skills & stamina module: A 400-yard swim; a 15-minute tread; an 800-yard mask, snorkel, and fins swim; and a 100-yard tired diver tow. SCUBA skills are practiced and then judged. A divemaster's skills must be demonstration-quality so student divers may learn from watching him/her.

The final part of the course is an internship with your instructor. You will be assisting an instructor with student divers during 5 confined water (pool) sessions, and 5 open water dive sessions.

Due to the more time-consuming scheduling of the Divemaster course, times and dates are usually worked out on a week-to-week basis. The instructor will assign the Divemaster candidate various modules for home study. When the student is ready, a meeting time is scheduled to review those modules. The student will also be given notice of confined water (pool) training sessions and open water training well in advance.

Rates: $850.00 + Mass sales tax on student materials. This cost includes all academic materials needed for the course.  All academic, pool & open water training. 3 Days of 2 tank boat diving. A membership fee must also be paid to PADI (which is not included in the course).

Diving Specialties

Enriched Air (Nitrox) Course
Prerequisite: Open Water Diver Certification

Enriched air or nitrox as it is often called in the industry is a breathing mixture a little different than the air SCUBA divers normally breathe. From your open water class, you learned that nitrogen is the problem gas when diving- it can cause decompression sickness if divers are not careful. Enriched air carries a higher amount of oxygen and a lower amount of nitrogen than air does. Because this mixture has less nitrogen, we are allow to safely extend bottom time at depth. Of course in life.... we don't get something for nothing, now we have to keep track of elevated oxygen levels in the mixture we are breathing. This course will show divers how to use nitrox safely, extend bottom time, safe handling procedures, and more. This course entails one class session done in the evening, then 2 open water training dives.

Students can sign up for the enriched air course at the dive shop, and pick up the academic materials and videos. Students complete all the reading and watch all the videos at home on their own pace before the classroom session. Then attend one of the scheduled evening classroom sessions at the dive shop listed below.

A drysuit will allow you to enjoy SCUBA diving a lot longer than the best wet suits, either on a single dive, or during an extended dive season. If you are a serious New England diver . . . .
